This initiative has been running already in India, so yes they can and will pull it off.
Express Wifi is a facebook initiative that offers mobile device owners in underserved communities right of entry to to rapid and less expensive internet via partnerships with neighborhood internet service providers.
Facebook is also supplying a software that’ll help ISPs and entrepreneurs promote or offer internet with a 15% fee on every records sale.
Set to launch officially in Lagos a while this week, express Wifi hotspots could have service speeds of 10Mbps with plans ranging from as low as N40 for 100MB daily to N1,600 for 5GB month-to-month.
The specific Wifi hotspots are already live in some elements of Lagos – Ikota purchasing complex, for instance – and will be rolled out to different parts of Nigeria as soon as the whole of Lagos is taken care of.
There’s already a website wherein all can register for a 14-day loose trial (with as much as 100MB consistent with day) but regions of coverage haven’t been introduced yet.
What do you think of this?
