We all know data plans are getting ready cheaper but definitely not cheap enough to certify ridiculous usage of it.
Whether you're actively using them or not, apps love to eat up data. Constantly at the sight of data they're checking for updates, running ads, and refreshing your user content in the background. The good intentions are there, but most times, this actually does more harm and almost no good. I knew I had to sanction my phone when without downloading I'd almost finish 7GB in less than 2weeks!
A little check here and there revealed how some of my apps have been dramatically munching largely on my data plan, e.g one of the apps I love most, 9apps, checking it's data usage showed that it had consumed 30mb that day and I had not even opened it once that day!
•Know those pop up alerts you get from an app, that comes in seconds after you switch your data on? those notifications that miraculously takes residence in your notifications bar? Well, that's your data plan going down the drain.
And background data gets most deadly when the app has the privilege of auto updating apps. Imagine it's an app for downloading apps and it now auto updates app, well we won't be needing an autopsy to know what killed your data plan after all, even apps you don't use again would be freshening up at your own expense.
How do I curb this menace?
First, let's put Auto-upadte of apps in check, just in case the next precautions temporarily trips off, this should keep this function in good behavior.
How To Disable Auto Update Of Apps
•Head over to Google Play store and tap Menu > Settings > Auto-update apps.
Here, be sure that "Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only" is selected. You also have the option to choose "Do not auto -update apps," but I believe the first option is preferable since when on Wi-Fi you really most times aren't limited to certain data allowance.
Now let's disable the "saint" itself.
How To Disable Background Data Usage
It's actually simple;
Method1
• Go-to Settings > Data Usage > Click menu and authorize Restricte Background Data. And you are done
On some not to rare but not frequent cases, some phones don't come with this function in this manner, some don't at all.
Method2
For Gionee phones like P4, you will need to go-to;
System manager > traffic monitor > Network Control, there you can prohibit all or some selected apps.
NOTE: While the Method1, tells the phone to prohibit data usage when not opened, Method2 actually bars the app from data usage automatically, opened or not.
Method3
For phones with neither of the function highlighted above in Method1 and Method2, this is what to do.
Head over to Google Play Store and search "My Data Manager" , download the app and set it to work, it is reputed to be effective.
Happy Sunday And Happy Data Management.
Hope this helped? Please share. Thank you.
