Silent Seduction (23)

*****************
Jo sat all by herself in the large living room of her parent's house. She was wearing a polka dotted top over a pair of jean shorts. The house help was probably in her room, sleeping or doing any other thing Jo really doesn't want to know. All she knows was she was bored as hell and she needs company. There was actually nothing to do to get rid of the boredom. Tobi seemed to be avoiding her. He stopped picking her calls after the excuse of going to his uncle's.
Her mum was off (as usual) to some place, Jo just got to know was on the world map. Her mum's travelling spree sometimes got her thinking she wasn't really wanted. Because if she really were, this woman would stay with her as much as possible since she was the one who adopted her. Listen to her like all these mothers she'd heard and read about and offer possible advice when she seeks one. All these things she'd wished for were just like a page out of fairytale book. Her wish never came true.
There had been little or no difference while her dad was alive. He was also always out on one business trip or another but the truth is he stays home more than her mum does.
Although, her mum gets her everything she needs and call her as often as possible, these are nothing compared to her presence. That was all Jo really wants but she had been denied that.
There were sometimes when she often wondered while she had to grow up at the orphanage. Maybe if she were with her parents (whom she was sure as hell won't be travelling as much as her foster mum does), she'll probably be happy with her siblings, if she really got the chance to have more than one. Even one would be okay if she won't have to be greedy about it.
But she couldn't also help thinking her real parents don't want her.
She was probably some product of an unhealthy romance between two teens and unfortunately for the duo and fortunately for her, she had managed to survive series of intense abortion somehow on the part of her mum and she had grown into an unwanted baby from an unwanted foetus which was bad for her parents whose only option was to drop her off by the door of an orphanage all wrapped up in newspaper or is it tissue paper.. In a carton of soap or possibly biscuit.
She had seen a lot of movies to know how those kids from the orphanage end up there and these are really things she didn't want to know. She didn't want to find out about her past and later discover she was actually a nobody. It would certainly break her.
And that intern at the hospital.
Why does it feel like she knew her from way back?
That girl stirs up some kind of memory she couldn't place.
Is that why she hated her before she knew about her and Marcus?
Because she stirs up the past she doesn't want to remember. A past that got her thinking she was probably the child of some 'low-lives' somewhere.
She doesn't really want to know who she was!
She doesn't!
She is Johanna Edwards and nothing is ever going to change that!
She shrugged off the thought about her past and focused on what really mattered.
Marcus.
He had been the only guy she ever felt like this for. They were planning a future until her past set in to destroy everything.
She should have told him about dating one of his friends but she held it back, fed him lies about how perfect her past was never knowing those two were friends and when she finally did know, she tried to fix it.
Tried to fix it by trying to end their friendship not knowing her ex had no plans of letting Marcus know with a clear thought she already told Marcus about them.
So when she was found out to be the culprit behind the distrust between the two friends while trying to cover up her past, the cat was let out of the bag and Marcus broke up with her.
What she really doesn't understand was why Marcus had to break up with her because of that. Any sensible person would see she did that because she loved him. She doesn't want to lose him because she didn't how he'd react to her being his friend's ex.
Fine, she made a mistake not telling him and also trying to break the two friends but shouldn't he have let it slide?
All she needs is another chance and she is all out to get it.
She just hopes her plan works.
And as unexpectedly as it sounds, her phone started ringing and the caller I.D showed Marcus.
Okay, calm down Jo.
It's really him and you are not daydreaming.
'Hello?' She picked the call, trying not to sound excited.
'Idris got involved with highway robbers and he got shot in the process. He is in the hospital right now.' He paused and it was obvious he was exhausted 'I just thought you should know.' He added before hanging up.
This isn't about them. It's about Dr. Idris getting shot.
She stood up abruptly in an attempt to hurriedly get dressed.
Okay.
This is a good sign. Him calling is a sign that what they had isn't over yet.
But now is not the time to think about that.
This isn't the time.
